Not long ago our Lady’s Bible Study leader challenged us with “listen to this song and then determine what you would say to / ask the person who penned the lyrics”. I thought it was a great challenge, so I listened and then I wrote a letter to the writers of the song, Joe Fox, Andrew Peebles, and Brett Sheroky. The song, “Bible Verses”, was released by popular Country Music artist Blake Shelton, so I thought I should include him in my greeting as well.
I did not send the letter but I did read it to the ladies and then they challenged me to actually send it! Well, I will go a step further and publish it here on Christianity Every Day.
Here is the song and after you listen to the song, take a look at my letter too. I hope you are encouraged by the truth that the Bible is never against you (“The Bible VERSUS Me”), but instead that it is The Good Book full of God’s precious words and really the best way to know what God wants to say to you.
Here is the letter:
Dear Mr. Fox, Mr. Peebles, Mr. Sheroky, and Mr. Shelton: I just listened to your song "Bible Verses". I am sad that it sounds like you have not had a very positive experience with the Bible and the promises that you can find in those precious pages. I have good news! You don't need a halo to reach Heaven. And you don't have to measure up. And you don't have to give yourself grace because God gives all the grace you need. He did that when He gave us His only begotten Son to wear our halo and sacrifice Himself so we can measure up! You see, it is not the Bible VERSUS you...read for yourself and know. Your uphill battle to being saved is all about God's grace. Start reading now with Ephesians 2:8-9. Don't work so hard because Jesus already paid the price so you can get to Heaven. Read and you will know that the Bible is not against you. On the contrary, it is God's words and "if God be for us, who can be against us"? I am praying for you all! Pamela Rose Williams
