Introduction
The Bible teaches that Jesus is the Son of God [1]. And a fundamental belief of Christianity is that Jesus was crucified, dead and buried and on the third day He arose from the dead. He did this as a sacrifice for the sins of humanity and all who believe in His sacrifice are forgiven and made right with God [2]. In addition, Christians also believe that Jesus was fully human and fully God [3]. But where can we find proof in the Bible that Jesus is God?
Comparing Old Testament with New Testament Jesus is God
We see the name of the Lord God in the Old Testament as He whom the Hebrews called LORD or Jehovah. In the New Testament we see Jesus called Lord which is translated from the Greek as the supreme in authority and Master. We see deliverance by Jehovah and salvation through the Deliverer – Jesus, the Lord and Master.
And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the LORD shall be delivered: for in mount Zion and in Jerusalem shall be deliverance, as the LORD hath said, and in the remnant whom the LORD shall call. (Joel 2:32)
And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved. (Acts 2:21)
For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. (Romans 10:13)
As told by the Prophet Isaiah, God (LORD) is the King of Israel. God also calls His redeemer the LORD of hosts. God says He (Himself) is the first and the last and there is no other God. In the Book of Revelation Jesus calls Himself the Alpha and the Omega, the first and the last.
Thus saith the LORD the King of Israel, and his redeemer the LORD of hosts; I am the first, and I am the last; and beside me there is no God. (Isaiah 44:6)
I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty. (Revelation 1:8)
I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last. (Revelation 22:13)
Jesus is eternal just like God, and He created all things with God.
And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. (Genesis 1:26)
For I lift up my hand to heaven, and say, I live for ever. (Deuteronomy 32:40)
Behold, God is great, and we know him not, neither can the number of his years be searched out. (Job 36:26)
But thou, O LORD, shall endure for ever; and thy remembrance unto all generations. (Psalms 102:12)
Hast thou not known? hast thou not heard, that the everlasting God, the LORD, the Creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth not, neither is weary? there is no searching of his understanding. (Isaiah 40:28)
Who hath wrought and done it, calling the generations from the beginning? I the LORD, the first, and with the last; I am he. (Isaiah 41:4)
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. (John 1:1-3)
Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature: For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him: And he is before all things, and by him all things consist. (Colossians 1:15-17)
Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds; Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high: Being made so much better than the angels, as he hath by inheritance obtained a more excellent name than they. (Hebrews 1:2-4)
God tells us that we should worship only Him and, as mentioned earlier, there should be no other gods before Him. Jesus is not another god; He is God, and we worship Him as God tells us to do.Â
Thou shalt have no other gods before me. (Exodus 20:3)
I am the LORD thy God, which brought thee out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage. Thou shalt have none other gods before me. (Deuteronomy 5:6-7)
Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. (Philippians 2:5-11)
And they sung a new song, saying, Thou art worthy to take the book, and to open the seals thereof: for thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by thy blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation; And hast made us unto our God kings and priests: and we shall reign on the earth. And I beheld, and I heard the voice of many angels round about the throne and the beasts and the elders: and the number of them was ten thousand times ten thousand, and thousands of thousands; Saying with a loud voice, Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive power, and riches, and wisdom, and strength, and honour, and glory, and blessing. And every creature which is in heaven, and on the earth, and under the earth, and such as are in the sea, and all that are in them, heard I saying, Blessing, and honour, and glory, and power, be unto him that sitteth upon the throne, and unto the Lamb for ever and ever. And the four beasts said, Amen. And the four and twenty elders fell down and worshipped him that liveth for ever and ever. (Revelation 5:9-14)

Final Thoughts
Jesus is God and because we are humans, this is one of those points of doctrine that is difficult to wrap our mind around. Thankfully, we have God’s words to fall back on. As we study and compare Scripture with Scripture, we can believe that Jesus is not only our promised Deliverer, but also Jesus is God.
“Whom shall he teach knowledge? and whom shall he make to understand doctrine? them that are weaned from the milk, and drawn from the breasts. For precept must be upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little: For with stammering lips and another tongue will he speak to this people.”
