Cookies, Christmas sugar cookie cutouts

A yummy recipe for Christmas cut-out cookies. Takes some time but worth every minute.

Equipment

  • 2 baking sheets
  • stand mixer or hand mixer with large bowl
  • bowl, medium
  • Spatula
  • measuring cups, spoons
  • parchment paper
  • cookie cutters

Ingredients

  • 1 cup butter (softened)
  • 1 ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1 tsp almond extract
  • 3 ½ cup flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • ½ salt (reduce to ¼ tsp if salted butter)
  • sprinkles or your favorite glaze/icing

Instructions

  • Cream butter and sugar in mixer bowl
  • Add eggs, vanilla and almond extract. Mix well
  • In medium bowl combine flour, baking powder and salt. Mix well with a whisk.
  • Carefully add the dry ingredients to your creamed ingredients. Mix on low until well mixed.
  • Refrigerate dough for at least one hour.
  • Preheat the oven to 375 ℉
  • Roll dough thickly (about ¼").
  • Cut dough into shapes with cookie cutters.
  • Prepare baking sheets with parchment paper.
  • Place cut out cookies onto prepared baking sheets.
  • If you are using sprinkles, sprinkle cookies before they go in oven.
  • Bake 10-12 minutes until slightly browned.
  • Cool on rack.
  • (optional) Glaze or frost cookies if you did not sprinkle them.
