Every Knee

By Pamela Rose Williams

“Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” Philippians 2:9-11

Years ago we were watching C-SPAN coverage of a political event and there was a man who was shouting obscenities and then he looked up to the sky and shook his fist and said “This knee will never bend, this tongue will never confess…”. I was amazed that this man with the foul mouth knew a quote from the Bible.

This passage out of Philippians 2:9-11 is not something that Paul made up.  Every word of the Bible is true and many times, such as in this case, it is based upon other verses.  Here are some that I have found as cross-references that confirm the fact that indeed one day EVERY KNEE will bow and EVERY TONGUE will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord.

Isaiah 45:23 I have sworn by myself, the word is gone out of my mouth in righteousness, and shall not return, That unto me every knee shall bow, every tongue shall swear.

Isaiah 52:13 Behold, my servant shall deal prudently , he shall be exalted and extolled , and be very high .

Daniel 7:14 And there was given him dominion, and glory, and a kingdom, that all people, nations, and languages, should serve him: his dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and his kingdom that which shall not be destroyed.

Acts 2:33 Therefore being by the right hand of God exalted, and having received of the Father the promise of the Holy Ghost, he hath shed forth this, which ye now see and hear.

Hebrews 2:9 But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels for the suffering of death, crowned with glory and honour; that he by the grace of God should taste death for every man.

Ephesians 1:20-21 Which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places, Far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come …

Colossians 1:20 And, having made peace through the blood of his cross, by him to reconcile all things unto himself; by him, I say, whether they be things in earth, or things in heaven.

Bow the knee … it is prophesied; it is truth!
