He Knows

“For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end. Then shall ye call upon me, and ye shall go and pray unto me, and I will hearken unto you. And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart.” (Jeremiah 29:11-13)

In this passage God is speaking to the elders that were in captivity in Babylon by Nebuchadnezzar the evil king (Jer 29:1).  Jeremiah was a prophet and he recorded these words as the Holy Spirit inspired.  The verse immediately before today’s passage tells us how long they were in captivity:

(Jer 29:10)  For thus saith the LORD, That after seventy years be accomplished at Babylon I will visit you, and perform my good word toward you, in causing you to return to this place.

They were there for 70 years!  But God gave a promise that He would perform good to them.  And in verse 11 He reminds them that His thoughts are of peace and not evil and that there will be an end to this difficult time.

God gave this wicked people over to Nebuchadnezzar because they were a rebellious people (Jer 28) and they would not listen to what Jeremiah had prophesied.  They did not believe that Jeremiah was a prophet because they were blinded by a lie.  The rebellion against the LORD was because the people listened to a false prophet, Hananiah (Jer 29:8-9).  Jeremiah prophesied that the LORD would “cast” Hananiah from the face of the earth for making the people to believe a lie (Jer 28:15-17).  And the LORD kept His promise.

God knows exactly what our future holds!  He knows who, what, where, when and how His children will turn to Him.  And although it might seem that we have plenty of time to turn to Him and ask for His guidance, the time is running out.  Are you trusting the LORD for your everything?  Do you know my Savior?  Click here to read about Him Meet My Savior.
