“I Love You”

Love is a word that is used and misused. It is something that the Bible says will “wax cold” (Matt 24:12) because of sin in the end times. The Bible also says men will” be lovers of their own selves” (2 Tim 3:2) and “lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God” (2 Tim 3:4).

We know that Paul wrote much about love and one of the most popular chapters in the Bible to read at a wedding is 1 Corinthians 13. Of course, that chapter is known as the “love” chapter.

Although the Bible uses several words in the original languages that have been translated to “love” in the English, “charity” is the one that is mostly used to explain that kind of “love” that is shared between a husband and an a wife and even sweethearts. It is a “giving” kind of action. It is that thing that when given produces the true joy and peace that only a believer can possess. Love is part of the fruit of the Spirit (Gal 5:22-23). When we truly love someone we will show it in our actions toward them. We will serve them because we love them. We will put their needs and desires above our own.

My friend Josh put together a collection of verses about love over at WCWTK, take a look: Bible Verses About Love. And for some other articles about love check out:

In the meantime, remember that when you say “I love you” back it up with action. Let it never be the empty words that wax cold.
