Run!

“There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.” (1 Corinthians 10:13)

Everyone is tempted at some point in life.  That’s why the verse says “such is common to man”.  Something really important to remember is that God will  not ever tempt us with evil.  When we are tempted to do something that goes against that which would please God, it has come from the Devil.  Even so, the good news is that although God allows Satan to tempt us, He will not allow us to be tempted beyond the escape that He offers.

For example, let’s say you have a problem with spending too much money and today is pay day.  Well, your friend has just invited you to go to the mall.  Remember, you got a pocket full of cash.  You are thinking it would be nice to go on a shopping spree, but you know the rent is due.  You have two choices: (1) Go to the mall and allow the temptation to turn into a poor choice and go on that shopping spree or (2) Do not go to the mall and save the money for rent payment.  Since you see that you have two clear choices, you can also see that God has “made a way of escape”.  You are able to avoid that temptation by staying away from the place that might cause you to do the wrong thing.

Making the right choice sometimes requires us to RUN from the place that causes us to do wrong.  Sometimes it even requires us to RUN away from friends whose influence cause us to make poor choices.  We can also RUN to the Lord in prayer asking for the “way of escape”.

Remember that you can always ask your Heavenly Father for help.  He promises that He will make a way.
