Sowing and Reaping

“Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting.” (Galatians 6:7-8)

Every time I read this verse I think of a song that we did for Vacation Bible School one year.  This was from the Patch the Pirate CD “Down Under”. Sometimes it takes a song for you to understand the Scripture.  The children really understood the concept of sowing and reaping when one of the leaders used my garden as an example as well.  He brought in some vegetables and showed them to the children and then we walked outside to take a look at my garden (it was at the parsonage behind the church).  He demonstrated with seeds to show that only a tomato seed would produce a tomato; a cucumber seed would produce a cucumber and so on.  He taught the children that when you put a seed in the ground and then you water it, it will grow into a vegetable.  He taught the children that when you harvest the vegetables that this is called reaping.  You reap certain vegetables from certain seeds.  Then he talked about weeds (and even showed a couple from my garden).  Then he went on to explain the memory verse in Galatians 6:7 and the children really got it.  Throughout the week we continually talked about actions and how they related to sowing and reaping.

I find it very helpful to look back at Gal 5:19-25 to review the works of the flesh and the and the fruit of the Spirit.  This will also help you to understand how the works of the flesh produce corruption and the fruit of the Spirit things that endure.

(Galatians 5:22-23)  But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.

Things to Think About and Do:

1. Purposefully plant a good seed today — tell someone about your Savior and show them at least one Bible verse that tells them that they have a home in Heaven when they believe like you do.

2. Review Galatians 5:19-25 and think on it. Then match up your attitude with the list of things there. Are you producing corruption (weeds) or fruit that endures?

3. Share this post with someone whom you believe will be encouraged by it.
