“Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ:” — Philippians 1:6
I think we all have those days when we doubt that God can really do it. We have a deep desire in our heart and sometimes we cry ourselves to sleep for weeks, months or longer practically begging God to do that which we so desire.
What happens is then it starts to consume us. It seems that no matter what we do, this “thing” is all we can think about. We try to get our mind off of it and eventually, when all is quiet and we are no longer occupied with other stuff this “thing” creeps back.
I remember one time I had my heart set on something big, it was not a promise, it was merely a possibility. I had not really considered that this “thing” was going to cause a large hardship in our lives —
BUT GOD KNEW!
And that “thing” did not come to be. I was so disappointed and I even cried to my husband about it. I remember searching the Scriptures for the answer to why this “thing” did not work out like I wanted. We could not see what other “things” God was doing in His plan for us. As it turned out, God’s plan really was so much better than the other one that I had dreamed up.
Today’s verse was one of the first ones I read when I searched my Bible and although Paul is really speaking of the changes that happen inside of us as we walk in the Spirit, I do believe that the Lord will do what the Lord promises to do. You know what? Even after that plan of mine had fallen through, God provided in a way that I could not even imagine. Here are some other Scriptures that are good to meditate upon when that “thing” does not work out for you. I am not going to list all of the text to the verses because I want you to go get your Bible and look them up. You will be amazed at how much better you will be when you have spent time in the word
Psalms 42:5
Proverbs 3:5-6
Romans 8:18-21
2 Corinthians 9:8
Ephesians 3:20-21
1 Peter 1:3-5
James 1:2-4
Don’t let that “thing” consume you. Praise the Lord and do what you know will be pleasing to Him. In His time He will perform it.
