We Choose Virtues Homeschool Kit Review & Giveaway

One day not so long ago I was reviewing comments over at WhatChristiansWantToKnow and I saw one from Heather McMillan. She was encouraging me on one of the many “Bible verses” articles that I put together. She mentioned that she had a homeschool product that promotes Biblical virtues and that our Bible verse pages were very helpful to her.

As the Lord would have it I mentioned that I had homeschooled my children and that I do product reviews here and Christianity Every Day. I offered to review her homeschool product. And so today I share with you my review of the We Choose Virtues homeschool kit.

About We Choose Virtues

We Choose Virtues was created by Heather McMillan, [wife of Elton McMillan Jr.], out of her love for children and her desire to see them reach their personal potential. As preschool teacher and a children’s pastor, it concerned her how often she came across children whose lack of self control, honesty and perseverance was almost debilitating. How could they succeed in life without the skills that come from good character?

Elton Jr. & Heather McMillan, Creators

Many grade school teachers she knew admitted that it sometimes takes from September to winter break for their students to follow even the simplest classroom instructions. This crisis in personal character seemed to be obstructing the learning process for their entire classrooms.

As her passion continued to grow, she realized that she wanted to teach children how to change. Not just a momentary change of actions, but a more lasting change in their attitudes as well. Her observation is that children needed to be inspired by simple, positive and consistent instructions, and parents and teachers needed an effective language with which to communicate these instructions.

It was out of this necessity that Heather created the original list of virtues and their unforgettable catchphrases. She used them at home with our four children, taught them in her own Preschool classroom, introduced them to fellow teachers,  parents, and professional counselors. They were enthusiastically received and the results were outstanding.  These same helpful phrases have been translated for teachers in India and Cambodia.

Review

I was missing my homeshool days as I looked through We Choose Virtues homeshool kit and was very impressed with the thoroughness and quality of the different pieces. I was eager to look at everything and take in the vibrant colors and “kid friendly” language that is used throughout.

The kit that I received for review is printed in the New International Reader’s Version of the Bible and I am happy to say that it is also available in the King James Version. So sorry I forgot to mention my version preference to Heather earlier. We Choose Virtues is even available in a Secular version — and the Parenting Cards have Bible verses even on those!

All in all the kit teaches twelve virtues and it includes the following components (click on the photo for larger view):

We Choose Virtues – The Three Rules Poster
We Choose Virtues - Kids Virtue Poster
Kids Virtue Poster
We Choose Virtues – Virtue User Review
100 Days of Virtue Chart and Butterfly Stickers
We Choose Virtues – Kids of VirtueVille Poster – Mini Set
We Choose Virtues – Virtue Clues!
We Choose Virtues – Family Flash Cards
We Choose Virtues – Parenting Cards

All this great stuff and in addition you can choose some free downloads with your order too.

You might be overwhelmed with all these cards and charts at first and that is why I was simply delighted that We Choose Virtues also offers complete instructions on how everything works together. Take a look: How it Works

Maybe you do not homeschool, that’s fine because We Choose Virtues has other kits and products as well – you don’t need to buy everything in a kit. Consider these fine products as gift for any parent or grandparent. The products are of excellent quality and all of the cards are reusable and made to stand the test of time throughout your homeschooling years.

I highly recommend this product for any homeschool, traditional classroom, Sunday school class and any other place where children are taught. These virtues are timeless and when your students learn them they will be on their way to becoming God-honoring, productive members of society.
