What You Want is What You Give

Humble and Proud
Verse of The Day

“Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets.” (Matthew 7:12)

Today’s verse is about brotherly love.  Treating others how you would like to be treated.  Jesus is speaking in this verse and it comes after He had been teaching the disciples how to pray in chapter 6.  The subject of His teaching changes slightly after Jesus tells his disciples how they should be examining themselves before they judge their brother.  At Matt 7:6 Jesus starts speaking about giving and getting and asking and getting.  He uses some good analogies, He asks who gets a stone when he asks for bread.  Or who gets a serpent when he ask for a fish.  He is teaching that we often model what has been taught to us through the action of others.  Sometimes people have hateful behaviors and habits. Regardless of that, we ought always to treat our brothers and sister the way we want to be treated.

A man that hath friends must show himself friendly: and there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother. (Proverbs 18:24)

Things to Think About and Do

1. Is there someone in your life that you need to forgive or ask forgiveness of?

2. Where else in the Scriptures can you find that talks of brotherly love?

3. Think of one random act of kindness and do it for someone today
