Despised, rejected, stricken & afflicted

By Pamela Rose Williams

“He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not. Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted.” (Isaiah 53:3-4)

WOW! Are these not all terms to which we can relate? But how much more did My Savior deal with these things? But look at the verse that directly follows today’s passage:

But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed. (Isa 53:5)

He didn’t deserve it.  He never sinned. He did it for us … for me … for you … for the world! We had a debt we could not pay (the wages of sin is death Rom 6:23) and He paid a debt He did not owe and because we believe we are free from that wage (1 John 1:7).

Jesus the Christ died for our sins was buried and rose from the dead. This is the gospel of truth.  He did is because He loves us.  Do you know my Savior?  Meet Him here.
